This post has been a long time in the making. Kurt Cobain Style is what we would have grown up with if we were ten years older. Therefore, our love of Kurt Cobain Style is more anthropological. The one pic that we love most is from Cobain’s last ever photo shoot in 1994, shortly before he killed himself.
“It was the last formal photo shoot of legendary Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, just months before his tragic suicide in April 1994.
When the lead singer showed up to the shoot three hours late with a large pair of white Jackie O sunglasses, American photographer, Jesse Frohman recalls Cobain politely and quietly asking him for a bucket.
The 51-year-old, who was shooting the rock band for a magazine feature at the time, said ‘sure, but what for?’ Cobain responded, ‘cause I think I’m gonna puke.'” -From the Daily Mail.
Yeah, it’s a pretty iconic look. Kurt was always slipping into girls clothes, which we imagine was pretty exciting in pre-Caitlyn America. Cobain was many things, including but not limited to a poet, a junkie, a skinny kid who wanted to be famous, the husband of a lunatic, a young father, and a guy who really wanted attention. He was a live fast, die young, and leave a corpse with a hole in it kind of guy as well. #PoorTaste?
Biographer James Marshall Crotty’s Forbes article gives us an insight into Cobain’s state of mind. “I’m going to be a superstar musician, kill myself, and go out in a flame of glory,” the 14-year-old Cobain wrote in his journal. And so he did.
So how does one channel the Kurt Cobain Style? Not easy for us, as we have almost nothing in common with him. This is with the obvious exception of melancholia, hysteria and a love of womenswear. From the floor up, the feet are bare for the purpose of theme and continuity. The jeans are from ASOS, and the t-shirt is from Balmain (not H&M, real Balmain). The shirt worn over is a Marni cheese cloth number that is so fragile, Fussie’s nails needed to be clipped before I even took it out of the vault. The coat is from Amazon, and the glasses are from Party City. That’s where costumey stuff comes from.
So we dirtied up for Kurt Cobain Style and were relatively successful. Also, Fussie is playing the of Frances Bean, Kurt’s daughter.
